VisitorsSpeakers and other short term visitsWe are enthusiastic about hosting visiting speakers for lectures on topics of mutual interest, particularly on software for learning and related topics in artificial intelligence, cognitive science, collaborative or groupware systems, distributed architectures, human-computer interaction, and visualization. Although funds are generally not available for honoraria, we can assist with a formal letter of invitation, local transportation, and arrangements for lodging. Please first review this site to determine whether your presentation would be of interest to our group, and then contact the directors with a suggested title, abstract and dates of availability. We also welcome visits by anyone who would simply like to drop by and see our work. Long term visitsUnder exceptional circumstances (see next paragraph) we can accomodate a visiting researcher with office space and computers, and assistance in finding housing. Where appropriate, independent study students may be recruited to support your work. Although no research stipends are available, compensation for teaching is sometimes possible. We have found that visiting researcher arrangements are not productive unless a specific plan for collaborative work has been made in advance. Please examine our work closely and decide whether you wish to (1) work on one of our projects, or (2) to propose a new project that strongly relates to LILT research yet that you are prepared to manage on your own initiative. Prepare a proposal that identifies specific activities and objectives for your visit to LILT, and send this proposal along with a research resume and references to the directors. If you would also like to teach, include a teaching resume and references, and indicate which courses in our curriculum you are qualified to teach. Dan Suthers |
