Student Projects Completed in LILT

These projects are the final reports for theses and independent studies undertaken by students in association with LILT.

Masters Theses

Bo Yang:
A Hybrid Approach for Online Component-based Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL)

499/699 Projects from Academic year 2000-2001

Jennifer Brown (699) helped finish this LILT web site and Grace Ching (499) did a project on improving the ICS web site.

Jun Xu (699) implemented Kukakuka, a web-based interface to an NNTP server (threaded discussions) that associate a newsgroup with a web page so that people can have online discussions about the web page. This is essentially a servlet-based version of Toshiyuki's Pink.

Rui Xue (499) did a project on providing Belvedere with a persistent storage. She designed a MySQL database and tested various ways to manage pools of connections to the database.

Bin Ma (699) extended Rui's work, evaluating technologies for supporting a distributed collaborative version of Belvedere, focusing on interaction between Belvedere and the MySQL database.

Xiaohua Chen (699) integrated a Java-based NNTP (threaded discussion) client originally programmed by Trudy Lin with Belvedere. Users can reference individual objects in their messages. These objects are highlighted when reading the messages.

Nick Ni (499) experimented with Jazz, a Java-based zoomable interface, to provide a zoomable version of Belvedere's graph view.

Nick Ni (699) and Bruce Harris (699) worked together to (1) add concept mapping facilities to Belvedere; (2) modify University of Michigan's PiCoMap, a Palm-based concept mapping tool, to synchronize with Belvedere.
