Researchers!

Research in LILT spans artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and human-computer interaction, applying methodologies from these fields to develop improved educational software.

Research in LILT has studied how visual representations guide the learning of individuals and groups of students; how artificial intelligence technology can be applied to give feedback during the learning process; how to support interactive learning in a distance education context; and technical issues such as how to use software component technology to build interactive learning software. We have also explored how the kinds of software we design might be used by teachers and learners in school settings.

Currently LILT has a strong focus on studying how technology affordances support social processes of learning, ranging from the meaning-making dialogues of small groups to supporting reflective practice in online communities. We are applying both experimental and descriptive methodologies in this work.

We collaborate with external researchers and occasionally host visiting researchers for in-depth collaboration. Visit our research, software and opportunities sections to learn more about our work.
