The Laboratory for Interactive Learning Technologies (LILT) is part of the Department of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS), in the College of Natural Sciences, University of Hawai`i at Manoa. LILT is directed by Dan Suthers with the valuable collaboration of Vi Harada. The green links (also found in the menu to the left) provide access to details about LILT. Team members include ICS faculty, full time staff, graduate research assistants, various collaborating researchers and teachers, and students conducting projects for academic credit. Research in LILT addresses issues in artificial intelligence, cognitive science, education, and human-computer interaction, as well as mainstream computer science. This research is applied to the design and evaluation of distributed collaborative learning Software in which learners construct and manipulate representations of their evolving knowledge. Our Outreach efforts seek to build a better future for Hawai`i through distance learning initiatives at the University of Hawai`i and by supporting the Hawai`i Department of Education's standards-based systemic reform with collaborative Internet technologies. LILT also benefits Hawai`i by helping to train the next generation technology workforce. Opportunities exist for collaborating teachers and researchers as well as students.
