LILT has major presence at CSCL 2002 Conference

LILT faculty Dan Suthers and Chris Hundhausen and grad student Bruce Harris recently attended the conference on Computer Support for Collaborative Learning (http://www.cscl2002.org/) near Boulder. Our participant and roles included the following.

Dan Suthers was Interactive Events Chair and on the steering committee.

Dan Suthers and Chris Hundhausen presented a full paper on "The Effects of Representations on Students' Elaborations in Collaborative Inquiry"

"Using Handhelds to support Collaborative Learning," an interactive event organized by Dan Suthers in collaboration with University of Michigan colleagues Elliot Soloway, Chris Quintana and others featured software developed by Bruce Harris, David Burger and Nick Ni for uploading concept maps from Michigan's "PiCoMap" into Belvedere.

"Multicultural Issues in the Design, Evaluation and Dissemination of CSCL Systems", a panel co-organized by Masanori Sugimoto and Dan Suthers, explored issues important for our role in international distance learning and our work in multicultural schools.

"External Representations for Collaborative Learning and Assessment", an interactive event organized by Dan and Chris with colleagues Sadhana Puntambekar and Teresa Hubscher-Younger, focused on software tools for supporting learning with visual representaitnos.

"Video Cases for Teacher Learning: Issues of Social and Organizational Design for Use," an interactive event organized by Dan with several of his colleagues nationwide, included work on a project known as NetLearn that Dan initiated while still in Pittsburgh.

Angeles Constantino and Dan Suthers had a poster on "Coaching Collaboration in a Computer-Mediated Learning Environment".
