If you did not upload it last week, then you must finish Assignment 8: Preparing for Requirements Analysis by 3/12 so we can discuss it 3/14.
Rosson & Carroll Chapter 7, sections 7.3 and 7.4.
Constantine & Lockwood Chapter 18
Optional reading: Chapter 10 of Hix and Harston (handout available in my office or by fax)
My slides will cover a wider range of empirical evaluation methods, including interviews, surveys, observing users in natural settings, experiments, and usability testing. In usability testing, one records the behavior of users using the interface (prototype or implementation) and analyzes the results in terms of usability requirements such as performance benchmarks. Testing designs on users is the most expensive and time consuming method of all of those we will study, but is also the most reliable way to evaluate usability. Also, some of these methods are essential for those of you going into research.
On 3/16 we will conduct a usability study.
Assignment 9: Project Requirements Analysis (3/24) -- NOTE that this is the Saturday at the end of Spring Break, so plan ahead! You need to conduct an analysis with real users, analyze this data, and report the results.
Also, we are now reading in The Humane Interface. Read the first two chapters for discussion when we return.
