Assignment 4, Interface Architecture & Visual Design (due 2/16)
Information and Interaction Design
Ch. 4-5. of Rosson & Carroll
Constantine & Lockwood, provide some very specific techniques for interaction design (essential use cases) and information design (content models and abstract prototypes, which we'll cover next week). Rosson & Carroll's approach uses scenarios and claims analysis (as you might expect), augmented with storyboards and exploration of metaphors. These chapters also take a brief look at cognition and perception, material that is well covered in ICS 664. I will focus on the design methods.
These slides were developed for a lecture style presentation, so may not always be interpretable as an online resource, but I'm making them available to help show what I focus on and because they may contain some ideas not in the readings.

Monday: we discussed the Goodwin article. We also looked at more CHI videos to give you project ideas.
Wednesday: We'll try writing I&I scenarios and updating claims matrices, possibly supported by scketching.
Assignment 5, Information and Interaction Scenarios for the Collaborative Calendar, is due 2/23.
You can look ahead at Assignment 7, forming project groups, but it isn't due for two weeks. Use the Project Marketplace to discuss ideas with others.
