Assignment 10: Project Conceptual Design

The purpose of this assignment:

  • To develop your conceptual designs based on the requirements you gathered
  • To try methods such as activity scenarios (SBD) and essential use cases (UCD) on a real project
  • To evalulate the suitability of the design methodologies you have chosen
  • To prepare for physical design

Please do the following:

The details of this assignment depend on your project. If your project is following an entirely different trajectory through the star model, just let me know and we'll negotiate different requirements for this assignment.

Develop your Conceptual Design using at least one of the following. Groups of more than one person are required to do both:

  • SBD: Activity Scenarios and Claims Analysis
  • UCD: Task model expressed in Essential Use Cases (be sure to indicate which User Roles are supported)

If you are ambitious or creative you may also want to include Metaphors to generate ideas, as discussed in Rosson and Carroll. I will also consider other design and modeling notations that are in common use (don't just make something up), but please ask in advance.

The conceptual design should be derived from your requirements: make clear to us how it does! The conceptual design should all abstract from (not commit to) implementation details. You should discuss these scenarios or models with users, possibly leading to revisions.

As a group, write a brief discussion of what you learned about the value of the methods.

Compile this material into web pages with an appropriate guide, and post to disCourse in a new thread under the discussion for Assignment 10.

Then view and comment on the requirements for some other projects.

Due Midnight 4/2

To be discussed in class 4/4, so we need to review this 4/3
